A Nonstationary Analysis of Bandwidth Access Control Schemes for Heterogeneous Traffic in B-ISDN

چکیده
In this paper we present a comparative analysis of bandwidth access control schemes under nonstationary traac conditions for heterogeneous circuit-mode traf-c ooered to a B-ISDN network link. A uniied model to analyze the behavior of several bandwidth access control schemes is developed using a Markov process model with acceptance functions. Numerical method techniques are used to solve the associated Chapman-Kolmogorov equations and determine the nonstation-ary behavior. Performance results are given for several common bandwidth access control schemes, namely: complete sharing, complete partitioning, partial sharing , classical trunk reservation, and the probabilistic reservation policy. It is shown that the use of the average arrival rate to estimate the average connection blocking rate may be an underestimate for a system with a time varying arrival process. Also, it is found that a nonstationarity in one traac class arrival process can impact other stationary traac classes and the degree of variability depends on the particular access control scheme.

متن کاملBandwidth Regulation of Real-Time Traffic Classes in Internetworks
New network applications which involve transmission of continuous media data, such as audio and video conferencing, introduce immense challenges for the design of packet-switching intemetworks. Existing flow and congestion control mechanisms have been shown to be ineffective for supporting the real-time requirements of continuous media data transfers. We propose a novel bandwidth regulation mec...
متن کاملAn integrated bandwidth allocation and admission control framework for the support of heterogeneous real-time traffic in class-based IP networks
The support of real-time traffic in class-based IP networks requires the reservation of resources in all the links along the end-to-end paths through appropriate queuing and forwarding mechanisms. This resource allocation should be accompanied by appropriate admission control procedures in order to guarantee that newly admitted real-time traffic flows do not cause any violation to the Quality o...
متن کاملJointly power and bandwidth allocation for a heterogeneous satellite network
Due to lack of resources such as transmission power and bandwidth in satellite systems, resource allocation problem is a very important challenge. Nowadays, new heterogeneous network includes one or more satellites besides terrestrial infrastructure, so that it is considered that each satellite has multi-beam to increase capacity. This type of structure is suitable for a new generation of commu...
